Reading for Holy Ground – Words & Silence

This is, I’m afraid, quite urgent. I need you to record in the usual way this following text, and email it to me at fr.simonrundell@gmail.com  From there I can create it into a multimedia reading for the service on the 11th September. I therefore need it recorded and sent by Thursday 8th Sept at the latest. Please share this and encourage others to contribute, the more voices: ages, genders, accents, the better… The tone I am looking for is ‘meditative’.

Text:

Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?
‘Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.’
Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the LORD,
but the LORD was not in the wind;
and after the wind an earthquake,
but the LORD was not in the earthquake;
and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of sheer silence…..

Pay heed, listen to me;
be silent, and I will speak.
If you have anything to say, answer me;
speak, for I desire to justify you.
If not, listen to me;
be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.’

Thank you.

Holy Ground Meditation

I need the following text recording (the instructions are as above) and emailing to fr.simonrundell@gmail.com please. Read it as a meditation, fairly slowly, but not stilted. I’ll cut up your voice with the rest and make something beautiful out of this (see the Resources section for examples). If, after this, you are inspired to, please consider recording some of the Psalms still listed so we can eventually complete the project.

There is an urgent deadline to this item. I need it sent by Wednesday 9th March pleasepile-of-assorted-buttons

Buttons

A simple round inanimate object
Easily overlooked when lying on the ground
Designed, made and created for the purpose of joining things

Yet …All different in size, depth, orientation, age and composition

What attracted you to your button?
What made it stand out for you?
Turn it over, examine it closely
Look at the beauty

Yet….All united in purpose, usefulness, pleasure and shape

Hold the button
You are the button
Precious, unique, important, useful, designed and different
Value yourself
Love yourself
Love God

Is your button lost or found?
Is it damaged or mint?
Is it worn or shiny?
Is it used or unused?
Is it Chipped or perfect?

Buttons fit into buttonholes, but they need to be the right size and fit
Before God we are all unique, he has a purpose for each of us just like the hole.
Reflect on that purpose right now before God

Each button needs a thread to hold it firm; Love is that thread it must be tied strong to keep it from unravelling.
How strong is your thread today?
What can you say to God now?

Lord when we pre-judge help us to open our eyes
Lord have mercy

Christ when we turn away from those in need, help us to open our eyes
Christ have mercy

Lord in a world that is often too busy to engage, help use slow down and look around us, to open our eyes.
Lord have mercy
